A Los Angeles compound with a stand-alone chapel is coming on the market for $38.5 million.
The gated property, which measures about 1.4 acres in tony Brentwood Park, has a Spanish Colonial Revival-style house built around 1928, as well as a guesthouse and poolhouse. The chapel was added around 2004 by longtime owners Helen and David G.
Price, Christians who became devout later in life, according to Craig McDonald, Helen’s son from a previous marriage. The Mission Revival-style chapel was “a space for them to be able to go and have time and quiet and to study,” he said.
The late David Price founded American Golf Corp., which managed golf courses, in the 1970s, and he later founded its sister company, National Golf Properties, a real-estate investment trust, McDonald said. He died last year.

The property includes three parcels assembled over time, said McDonald. The Prices paid $5.5 million in 1999 for the house, property records show. In 2000, they acquired an adjacent parcel for $3.27 million, then added a third parcel for $2.4 million in 2004.
As the Prices bought neighboring parcels, they razed existing houses and added several new structures, including the chapel and a two-bedroom guesthouse, which is connected by a covered breezeway to a poolhouse with a living room and kitchen. The chapel has an attached potting shed and a two-car garage.
The estate spans about 8,200 square feet across multiple buildings. The main house has four bedrooms and a three-car garage, McDonald said.
After buying the house, his mother and stepfather renovated extensively.
The kitchen has a large eating area with a fireplace, and wood beams with hand-painted and stenciled details.
