Property mogul, 33, who owns 110 homes worth $90 million says he treats housing market like a game of Monopoly

A mega-wealthy investor has explained how he came from housing commission in the suburbs to owning a $90 million property portfolio.

Eddie Dilleen, 33, once lived in Mt Druitt in Sydney's west and worked at his local McDonald's.

Now, the young mogul owns 110 properties across almost every Australian capital city.

"I grew up in housing commission, basically in poverty, and I had that attitude when I was growing up at first that it's unfair when other people have money and I don't," he told Ben Fordham Live today.

"I realised after a couple years if I kept having that attitude, nothing would change.

"I've gotta find a way to get ahead, and property was my vehicle."

Dilleen, who is the director of his own property investment company, told Fordham he owns about $60 million worth of his property outright.

He said the key to getting ahead was treating Australia's property market like a game of Monopoly.

"Start small. Start with what you can afford and buy something as soon as you can, but make sure from an investment perspective, it takes care of itself," he said.

"My strategy is buying a property that's discount, buying a property that's actually under market value.

"I know I have a lot of haters out there that say you can't buy a property below what it's worth, but I'm living proof that you can."

Dilleen said he refuses to apologise for owning so many homes during the country's housing crisis.

"The problem's not me," he said.

"The problem is the system that we're in again."

Dilleen's first-ever home was an "ugly two-bedroom unit" and from there, his empire grew.
