WASHINGTON (TND) — Def Leppard's drummer, Rick Allen, said he is recovering after he was attacked outside a Florida hotel.
Allen thanked fans for the "overwhelming support." Your love and prayers are truly helping," Allen noted on Twitter on Sunday. "My wife Lauren was thankfully not with me at the time of the incident. We are together now, and working on recovering in a safe space."
Allen was reportedly attacked while he was smoking a cigarette outside a Four Seasons on Monday night.
CNN noted that police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Max Edward Hartley, who also allegedly attacked a woman who ran out of the hotel to help Allen.

CNN noted Hartley was later arrested at a nearby hotel where he was breaking car windows. Hartley has been charged with two counts of battery, four counts of criminal mischief and abusing an elderly or disabled adult.
Allen, 59, whose left arm was amputated after a car crash on New Year's Eve in 1984, is known to fans as "The Thunder God." He has been a member of Def Leppard since 1978.

Def Leppard has been touring with Motley Crue. The bands just finished a South American tour and are slated to start a European tour.
Def Leppard is set to release a new album, "Drastic Symphonies," with the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, on May 19. The band noted that the album feature their "iconic tracks, dramatically reimagined and sounding larger and more exhilarating than ever."
