A young woman in China with cerebral palsy has deeply moved people on mainland social media after she was found selling hairpins on the street to support herself.
The woman, known by the pseudonym Huanping, who is estranged from her parents, has also said that her greatest dream is to take her grandmother on a trip.
Huanping, from Tangshan in northern China’s Hebei province, was discovered selling her wares outside a shopping mall.
Her unsteady gait caught the attention of an online content creator, Sanzhenban, who is also a photographer with almost 100,000 followers on a major social media platform.
He captured their interaction and shared it on social media on January 9, in a post that went viral.

Huanping revealed that she was born prematurely and suffered from a lack of oxygen, resulting in cerebral palsy and mobility challenges.
Her parents moved away to work and offered her little support.
They later had another daughter, leaving Huanping to look after herself.
“They may not love me that much, but I love myself a lot. I am struggling hard for life,” she said.
Following the bankruptcy of her previous employer, she began selling hairpins on the street, selling them for just two yuan (27 US cents) each.
The trending online video captures the hairpins displayed on a black umbrella.
She also holds a placard adorned with a cheerful, hand-drawn icon that reads: “Since you’re here, why not buy one?”
Despite minimal daily sales and earnings due to cold weather and fewer customers on the street, her determination remains.
Raised by her grandmother since childhood, she dreams of taking her on a trip to see different landscapes and experience the beauty of the world.
Huanping recalled that she endured constant bullying as a child, with her classmates often calling her a “cripple” and taunting her about her absent parents.
Despite the pain, as an adult, she has come to terms with her past.

“I can speak fluently, and my hands function well enough to work. Compared to many others with cerebral palsy, I am very lucky. You have to stay optimistic to live a good life,” she said.
“As a girl, you really have to rely on yourself. You need to build inner strength. I think I am amazing. After everything I have been through, I am still happy. I am proud of myself,” Huanping added.
Eventually, the influencer decided to buy all her hairpins, took photos, and shared their encounter online, attracting lots of support from Chinese netizens who viewed her as a beacon of resilience and hope.
One online observer said:“They may not love me that much, but I love myself a lot. That’s so heartbreaking to hear.”
“Optimistic, cheerful, kind, and full of smiles. Good things will come to such a beautiful soul. Keep going!” said another.
