An incredible WWII shelter with rumoured links to the Dambusters raid is going under the hammer with a guide price of £165,000.
Foxwarren Bunker, near Cobham in Surrey, is on sale with 2.1 acres of commuter belt woodland. However, there is no planning permission for the site, so you’ll be limited with any renovation plans.

The subterranean bunker is valuable in its own way, though; beloved by amateur explorers who have documented their visits on YouTube, it even has websites dedicated to it.
Built into a bank in the forest, Foxwarren is H-shaped with reinforced concrete walls – quite different from the corrugated iron sheets which are usually present in tradition air raid shelters.
Although it is now inaccessible due to a broken ladder and large tree root, a vertical escape shaft is present at the far end.

While not the most visually appealing structure, the bunker is filled with history and is linked to one of the most dramatics periods of British military history.
It also became the base for the Foxwarren Experimental Department, which was a secret wartime project working on prototypes for new planes and weapons.

Barnes Wallis, the Dambusters inventor, worked there on the development of the bouncing bomb.
The 1943 Dambusters Raid saw an RAF squadron launch a surprise attack on a series of German dams. The bomb that Wallis created led to catastrophic flooding that diminished Nazi steel, coal and armaments production.

But isn’t the first time the site has been up for purchase. Last year, it went on sale for £300,000 but wasn’t snapped up, despite interest from buyers.
